Best Gay Bars Bangkok Silom

Silom is Bangkok’s premier gayborhood and is constantly evolving to bring more entertainment and places to hang out.

There are three main streets where gay venues are located. Silom Road has several alleys (called Soi’s in Thailand) that run in numerical order up the street, with odd numbers on the left and even numbers on the right.

Silom Soi 2 is home to the dance bars, with DJ Station being the most well-known. Silom Soi 4 is home to the chill-out bars; some have been there for twenty years. Soi 4 is experiencing a lot of changes, with venues opening and closing. The final street is Patpong Soi 2, which is where most of the money-boy show bars moved to when Soi Twilight closed down.

Silom caters to gay travelers of every demographic. Most of the bars have no attitude, and the welcome is always friendly and warm. Money boys frequent all the sois and are upfront about why they’re there. You can enjoy their company at any bar; buying them a drink is expected. If you want to spend private time with them, that’s also an option at a price to be negotiated.

For the ultimate night out, start in Silom Soi 4, which (due to Thailand’s archaic liquor laws) opens at 5 pm; enjoy a meal and some drinks. If seeing a gogo-boy show is on your itinerary, head to Patpong 2 around 11 pm. The nightclubs in Silom Soi 2 don’t get busy until after midnight, so you’ve got plenty of time to enjoy the other two streets until then.

Getting to the Silom gay bar strip is easy. Both the BTS and MRT have connecting stations there, Saladaeng (BTS) and Silom (MRT). It’s only a 2-minute walk to Soi 2 and another two minutes to Soi 4.

Jump in a taxi or a tuk-tuk and ask to be dropped at the Silom Complex shopping mall. Silom Soi 2 is across the road; walk up and over the road bridge to get there.

Silom Soi 4 is the place to go when the night is young; settle in and make your plans for the rest of the night. With such a variety of venues, bar-hopping is the norm. It can get jam-packed, especially during high season or on event nights like Songkran or Halloween. During these times, get there early and grab a seat before it’s standing room only.

While not as much of a money-boy street as Patpong Soi 2, there are some who enjoy spending the evening at the Soi 4 bars. If you meet one and feel like his company, please buy him a drink (or 10)!

More

Bars start to get busy from 10 pm, with most people moving onto the clubs around midnight.

Silom is the best neighborhood if you are looking to hit up a couple of different venues in a night.

Start at Silom Soi 4 it’s literally a street full of gay bars, perfect for bar hopping. Then from midnight onto Silom Soi 2 for DJ Station, Bangkok’s biggest club. From 2 am onwards, things move onto G Bangkok, just a 2-minute walk from DJ Station.

Beer is big in Thailand. The biggest local brands are ChangLeo, and SignhaRed Bull’s roots are also in Thailand but note the original/local version is not carbonated (no fizz or bubbles).

For something stronger, the Thai classic has to be SangSom. Confusingly it’s often sold as “Thai whiskey” but is actually rum, distilled from sugarcane. SangSom is also the main component of Thailand’s notorious “buckets of alcohol.”

Bangkok’s Best Gay Street

Silom Soi 4 is a side street off Silom Road that is packed with gay bars. It’s the perfect place for pre-drinks and relaxing while people are watching on its street. Silom Soi 4 is at its best from 9 pm – 12 am after which most people walk across the road to the gay party street of Silom Soi 2 where the DJ Station dance club is.

Bangkok Silom Soi 4 is set up with bars down both sides and tables outside facing the opposite bars across the street. This setup gives every table a clear view of people walking in & out and of the people sitting outside the bar opposite. With numerous bars, Silom Soi 4 is ideal for bar hopping. The most popular bars on the Silom Soi 4 are The Stranger Bar and The Balcony Pub & Bar.

Crowd: The crowd on Silom Soi 4 is a real mix. You will find locals drinking after work, a few expats, a big number of tourists, plus money boys and their predatorial.

Drinks: Again, each bar on Silom Soi 4 is different, but as a street, it’s of great value. The entry is free to the bars. For example, at The Balcony Pub & Bar, a beer is 69 Baht (under 3 USD.) per glass #happyhour.

Dress: There is no dress code on the gay street; just remember you will be judged as you walk down the aisle. However, some bars and dance clubs in Silom Soi 2 require proper shoes rather than flip-flops.

Facilities: Drag Show, Go-go show, Dancing, Restaurant, Bar, Music, Free WiFi

Hot Crowd & Sassy Drag Show

Ever wondered what it’s like to party every single night? Welcome to The Stranger Bar Bangkok (House of Drag Queens), proudly stationed on Silom Soi 4—One of Bangkok’s most flamboyant gay streets. This isn’t just any bar, it’s your nightly dive into drag paradise, where the party never stops and “low-key” is a foreign concept.

Drag shows every night? You bet. Because who says you can only wear sequins on weekends? At The Stranger Bar, it’s go big or go home every night from 10 pm. Come for the queens, stay for the iconic drink with names too cheeky to say out loud here like “Sperm Shot” and “Golden Shower”—yes, we went there. Keeping it tasteful is overrated anyway.

It’s 400 Baht for the entry—it comes with two drinks. Crowd? Oh, the melting pot of young (and youngish) expats, visitors, and locals who thought they were just stopping by for one drink (cute, right?).

Bangkok’s Oldest Red Light District

Soi Patpong, once famous for ping-pong girl shows, has lost its luster and is pretty much a ghost town. There are a few of those left.

Patpong Soi 2, on the other hand, is a hive of gay activity. It’s where all the go-go bars moved to when Soi Twilight was shut down. Frequent visitors to Bangkok will recognize the names of the bars.

If you’re in town and looking to have some no-strings sex with a hot guy and you’re bored with phone apps, Patpong Soi 2 is the place for you.

For those new to the experience, here’s what to expect. Enter any of the bars, and you’ll see many guys standing on stage wearing nothing but shorts or underwear. They each have a number pinned on them. If someone takes your fancy, you can order him. He’ll come and sit with you. Buying him a drink is required, and after negotiating a price—the going rate is around 3,000 baht (USD$80)—you can take him back to your hotel.

If you’re purely there to watch a go-go-boy show, you’re in the right place. There’s no cover charge, but you are obliged to buy drinks to watch the show. The drinks are 400 baht (USD$8) each, and that’s anything from bottled water to top-shelf spirits.

Shows begin around 10.30 pm, and most bars have three a night. As the night gets later, the shows get more adult. However, the new Thai government in 2023 put a ban on full-sex shows. Most venues have adhered to this; some even changed their approach (Banana Club Room in Soi 4 changed to cabaret shows, for example), but occasionally, you may get lucky in one of the Patpong 2 bars.

Where the Twinks Are

Fresh Boys is mostly a twink heaven, so this is the go-go bar for you if that’s your flavor. It’s no guarantee, but you may get lucky and see a full sex show here on occasion. Drinks are 400 Thai Baht (11.90 USD) each, for you and a go-go boy if you choose one.

Location: Fresh Boys is the first bar on the second level on the left-hand side as you enter the soi from Surawong Road.

Facilities: Go-go show, Bar

Something for Everyone

Screw Boy has a range of guys, from twinks to bears and even some other nationalities. It’s been in Silom for many years and moved to Patpong Soi 2 from Soi Twilight. Like Fresh Boy, if you’re lucky, you may get a full sex show. Entry is 400 THB (11.90 USD) includes a drink.

Location: Screw Boy is the first bar on the left on street level when you enter from Surawong Road.

Facilities: Go-go show, Bar

Beer Bar and Go-Go Boys

Hotmale Club is different from the others in the soi as it has a number of faces. Also relocated from Soi Twilight, it has an upstairs and downstairs bar that serves drinks and snacks. The boys are cute and would be very grateful if you bought them a drink. The drink prices are only slightly higher than those in Silom Soi 4. A drink for a bar boy is 20 baht more—that’s their tip.

Go behind the curtain upstairs, and you’re in the go-go bar. The dancers here are sexy, and the shows are fun. You won’t see a full sex show here, though. Once in the showroom, the drinks revert to 400 Thai Baht each (11.90 USD).

Facilities: Go-go show, Restaurant, Bar

Bangkok’s Original Go-Go Boys Bar

In its heyday in Soi Twilight, Dreamboy Paradiso (previously Dreamboys) was once the go-go bar to visit. It’s been hit hard by the new rules, and now it’s primarily geared towards paying for a companion for the night. There are still gogo-boy shows from 11 pm, and while you may see a hard cock or two, it’s unlikely you’ll see a full sex show.

Location: Dreamboy Paradiso has now moved to Patpong Soi 2, which is only a short walk from the former location. It is a convenient location to take a short walk to DJ Station dance club and Silom Soi 4 for bar-hopping from here.

Crowd: The crowd is very similar to the rest of Silom, a mix of old and young (ish) international visitors. Well, surely everybody’s here for the same reasons.

Drinks: The entry fee is 500 THB. ($16 USD) include two drinks.

Facilities: Drag Show, Go-go show, Bar

The Top of the Soi

The first bar in the street is right on the corner, facing both Silom Road and Soi 4. It’s primarily a cocktail bar but also has food and entertainment. Like most other bars, there are tables and chairs right on the sidewalk. However, as it’s right at the front, while super convenient, you don’t get the complete ‘feel’ of the activity deeper into the soi.

What is great is that the familiar Thai food menu offers daily specials, making it an excellent opportunity for an early dinner and some excellent cocktails before venturing further into the soi.

Those looking for entertainment can see drag queen shows upstairs every Thursday night from 10 pm to 2 am.

Music: DJs spin house and techno music to get you in the party mood.

Crowd: It’s a very mixed crowd at Silver Sand Bar. Many people stop here on their way to the BTS on their way home from work and stay for the night!

Drinks: Standard bar prices apply here; however, there are promotions. For example, from 5 pm to 8 pm, there’s free-flow wine for 999 baht per person on Monday to Wednesday nights.

Dress: No rules apply here; come as you are. Guys in tank tops and short shorts mix with people in suits who have just arrived from the office.

Facilities: Bar, Restaurant, Dancing, Drag Show, Music

The Hottest Bar in the Soi

Telephone Bar was a stalwart in Soi 4 for over 20 years. Sadly, it was a victim of COVID-19, and while it tried to remain open, it couldn’t. Cameron of Pride bought it, revamped it completely, and changed the name to Circus. He did keep on most of the staff and moved some of them to Pride.

Circus is now the hottest place on the Soi. It gets packed almost every night of the year. Handsome staff serve up delicious drinks and meals. There are drag performances (the fiercest on the Soi), and expert DJs continue to keep the party going with the best music.

Music: From disco to techno and hip hop to house.

Crowd: Circus has probably the broadest range of visitors, but it’s known to have some of the most beautiful people hanging out there, too.

Drinks: The drink prices are comparable to those of the other bars in the soi; there are also happy hour and weekly specials.

Dress: Come as you are or dress up; the choice is absolutely yours. No matter how you look, you’ll fit right in at Circus.

Facilities: Bar, Restaurant, Live music, Dancing, Drag Show, Cabaret show, Music

Tapas and Live Music

For years, a Tapas restaurant was in the heart of the soi. It was a popular place for gays and their friends to enjoy elevated Mexican food. When the owner wanted to sell, people were concerned that their once-favorite hangout would disappear.

In the end, former Phuket bar owner Cameron, looking for a presence in Soi 4, bought it, renamed it Pride Bar and Restaurant, and kept the most popular Tapas items on the menu. It was a win for everybody.

He’s done a lot for the soi. Pride Thailand organization is headquartered at the bar. He introduced live music into the street, which is now something other bars do, too.

Music: International pop music blasts through the speakers until it’s interrupted by live performances from The Voice Thailand contestants every Wednesday to Sunday night.

Crowd: People who used to visit the former Tapas restaurant still frequent Pride, as does a newer, often younger, and more Thai crowd.

Drinks: With so much competition in the street, Pride’s prices are pretty much the same as at every other bar. Look out for daily and weekly specials.

Dress: There are no dress rules here; come as you are.

Facilities: Bar, Restaurant, Live music, Drag Show, Music

Cabaret Come Nightclub

Banana Room Club has many faces. Outside, it’s another people-watching street bar. Inside, however, it’s a cabaret arena and nightclub.

Banana Room Club used to have gogo-boy shows, but due to government legislation, it has moved away from that to be more cabaret-show-focused. These are very well-produced, with fancy costumes and fun choreography. They’re suggestive and adult in nature, so you need to be 18+ to get in.

Late at night, after 2 am, it becomes a nightclub, and DJs keep the place rocking until 5 am.

Music: Between shows, the music is your standard international pop music. Once the show starts, it’s choreographed as needed. After 2 am, it’s dance party music for the rest of the night.

Crowd: There is a very mixed crowd at Banana Club Room, which changes throughout the night. The chill-out crowd is replaced by the show-watchers, who are then replaced by the clubbers. Some people stay for the entire night.

Drinks: Sitting outside in the soi, drinks are regular Silom prices, so from around 99 baht up, not including promotions. There’s no cover charge to go inside the Banana Club Room, but the drinks are 400 baht each, so you’re paying for the entertainment.

Facilities: Bar, Live music, Dancing, Drag Show, Cabaret show, Music

Hang Out and People Watch

In December 2023, Connections Bar had its 11-year anniversary party. At one time, it was the first bar on the left-hand side; now, it’s the second. This prime location for people-watching keeps patrons coming back. Like Balcony Bar, it has street-front seating, tables, and an inside air-conditioned area.

Owned and operated by Aussie Ross and his Thai partner Aek they’ll ensure you arrive as a guest, but leave like you’re family.

Aek’s Isaan-style food menu offers some of the best food in the Soi every Monday, Friday, and Saturday. The food comes from shared kitchens across the soi for the rest of the week.

There’s karaoke fun every night inside from 5:30 pm until closing. Event nights happen on each of the owner’s birthdays, and the bar’s birthday party in December.

Facilities: Bar, Restaurant, Karaoke, Music

Exotic Go-Go Men & Male Models

Jupiter2018 Bangkok (Perviosly Jupiter 2002) is a go-go gay bar. The bar is located on Silom Soi 4, Bangkok’s best gay bar street. Jupiter2018 Bangkok offers sexy shows, male models, and sassy drag queens. Open daily from 8.30 pm to 1 am with the main show starting at 10.45 pm.

Music: Jupiter2018 brings you hot guys and drag sexy shows through the night for later pre-drinks and maybe more.

Crowd: The crowd in Jupiter2018 is very similar to the rest of Silom, a mix of old, young(ish) international guys and a Japanese / Chinese crowd of gays who are interested in muscle local guys.

Drinks: The entry fee is 350 THB ($10 USD) comes with 1 drink and each drink is 350THB.

Facilities: Bar, Live music, Dancing, Drag Show, Go-go show

Erotic Muscles Men Guaranteed

Tawan Bar Bangkok is the longest-running go-go gay bar in Silom hub and well known as an extremely pushy management and overpriced drinks. This gay bar specializing in muscular Asian men go-go shows, quite a spot for bear-lovers. Tawan Bar offers one show per night at 10.45 pm onwards for the experience of erotic shows from Leather Show, Pharoah’s Show, and Hardcore Show by muscular handsome men (or not, you decide). However, in recent times reviews suggest that the quality of the muscle men has deteriorated (All the dancers are big men but some have more fat than muscle). Be there and grab a seat before 10:45 pm as the bar attracts a full house for its nightly show.

Crowd: Tawan Bar has very similar to the rest of Silom crowd and all has a shared interest in muscle Asian men.

Drinks: Free entry,  though the only condition is you have to buy a drink that costs 400 THB ($12 USD) per drink.

Facilities: Bar, Go-go show, Leather Bar, Massage
