But no trip has left such a deep and multi-layered impression as a 19-day tour to Central Asian countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. This was not just a trip, it was a cultural immersion, a visual shock, and a gastronomic surprise. What was also surprising – despite common stereotypes – is that the countries of Central Asia are diverse, inclusive and welcoming to all travelers, including the LGBTQ+ community. In this post we will share our trip with you.

Kazakhstan: a country of falcons and steppes

park-of-28-panfilovtsev-almaty-kazakhstan-8.jpg

Our tour started in Almaty – a city where the peaks of the Zailiysky Alatau proudly rise among green parks and Soviet streets. Here we walked through Panfilov Park, visited the Zenkov wooden cathedral, tried dried fruits at the Green Bazaar and admired the view of the city from Kok-Tobe. We also visited Medeo and Shymbulak mountain resorts, where you can breathe in a new way. And the highlight of the day was a demonstration of falcon show. The atmosphere was magical.

Kyrgyzstan: a country of crystal lakes and mountains

ed7c217b-482d-463e-bec1-6603cb8ebca4-shutterstock_1971144992.jpg

The move to Bishkek was easy and picturesque – green pastures, snow on the mountains in the distance and bright sun. Bishkek itself is a quiet, cozy city. We liked its sights, especially an oriental bazaar with its delicacies and a bright Ala-Too square. But the most memorable sight was Issyk-Kul Lake. We spent some time by the water enjoying the view of the mountains reflected in the mirror-like surface. The highlight of it all was a hike to the Ala-Archa National Park, a land of gently sloping valleys and dense fir forests.

Uzbekistan: the heart of the Great Silk Road

PXL_20240617_082749148-1536x1025.jpg

When we arrived in Tashkent, a real journey through time began. Old monuments, bazaars, madrassas – everything breathes history. But the real magic was waiting in Samarkand and Bukhara. Those are historical cities that witnessed the days of the Great Silk Road.  Uzbek cuisine impressed us the most – we have never tried such unusual dishes like pilaf with meat, samsa or laghman.

Tajikistan: a country of antiquity and untouched nature

ancient-panjakent-52.jpg

Tajikistan is probably the most closed country, it was a new world that existed far from civilization. But it is no less interesting for tourists. Penjikent or so called “Central Asian Pompeii” deserves special attention. It surprised us with its ancient history and the warmth of the local people. After Penjikent we visited the Seven Lakes – a real pearl with unbridled, majestic nature. I can still see the turquoise expanse of one of the lakes, the silence, and the fresh air.

Turkmenistan: a country of deserts and gaz craters

GettyImages-1173545756_.jpg

In Turkmenistan, we were amazed by the cleanliness and orderliness of the city of Ashgabat built in white marble. But the most impressive was a visit to the Darvaza crater. You stand in the desert, and in front of you is a giant burning funnel. It hypnotizes. Sleeping in a tent next to it is not just an adventure, it is like a night on another planet.

Our journey ended as we returned to Uzbekistan and visited Khiva – an open-air museum city preserving a number of the best examples of the Islamic architecture of Central Asia. Time stood still here. We walked along the narrow streets of Ichan-Kala, touched the ancient walls, and went into mosques. It was the perfect ending.

Why is it worth going?

Central Asia is a region of rich cultures, unique history and mouth-watering delicacies. Here people still smile sincerely, the dishes smell of spices and real meat, and the mountains are like from fairy tales. Everything is real here: nature, architecture, and the people themselves. If you are looking for a trip unlike any other, Central Asia is for you. Just remember to free up some space on your phone – you’ll be taking pictures of everything, and every shot will look like a postcard.

Gran Canaria Gay Beaches Guide https://thegaypassport.com/gran-canaria/gran-canaria-gay-beaches-guide/ https://thegaypassport.com/gran-canaria/gran-canaria-gay-beaches-guide/#respond Mon, 30 Jun 2025 08:52:00 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6067563 Did you know that the Canary Islands get over 3,000 hours of sunshine a year? No wonder it’s a haven for beach lovers. Gay travelers have a number of options, from a dedicated gay beach area complete with a beach bar to quiet secluded ones where you’ll likely be the only people there.  Then there are those famous dunes…more on those shortly.

So, where is the best place for gay travelers to stay if they want to spend time at the beach? As the first two beaches listed are connected to each other and both are equal distance from the Yumbo Centre where all the gay venues are, either staying at Playa del Ingles or Meloneros are great choices, with the second option being the closest to the recognized gay beach.

Playa del Ingles (English Beach)

The first on the list is Playa del Ingles, as it’s the most accessible and is really close to some of the best accommodation options on Gran Canaria. The streetfront next to the beach has cafes and restaurants and even a McDonald’s.

It’s easily the most popular beach on the island, and while there are tons of shirtless men everywhere, some of them may be there with their families. It’s predominantly a tourist beach, and while gay-welcoming, it’s not officially a gay beach. This means if you’re looking to get your cruise on or show off your new “nearly there” swimwear, this may not be the right beach for you (Maspalomas coming up next, though, is ideal)

How to Get to Playa del Ingles

Playa del Ingles is the easiest beach to get to; it’s 5 minutes in a taxi (or just under 20 minutes by leisurely walk) from the Yumbo Centre, where all the gay venues are.  It’s accessible by foot from Carrer la Duna (Dune Street).

Where to Stay at Playa del Ingles

Atlantic Sun Beach Gay men only apartment style hotel, every room has a balcony and a kitchenette and the beach is 5-minutes walk.

Villa Adler Hotel The highest-ranked gay only property on Booking.com, this intimate resort has 8 bungalows equipped with kitchens and private terraces. 15-minute walk to the beach

Bungalows Tenesoya For guys on a budget, these gay-men-only bungalows are great value for money and only a 10-minute walk to the beach.

Playa Maspalomas (Maspalomas Beach)

While not officially a gay beach, it’s the one gay guys flock to for many reasons. It’s 3 km on the very south of the island and has a dedicated nudist area. There’s also Kiosk # 7, a vibrant beachfront bar and snack truck. Sun loungers and umbrellas can be hired from there, along with food and drinks. It gets very busy during summer, and there’s wall-to-wall male flesh as far as you can see.

Between Maspolomas Beach and the city are the famous Dunes. This ‘desert by the sea’ is fascinating as the winds move the sand around, making it a constantly changing landscape. Historically, the dunes have been known to be a popular cruising area if you pick your time right. Most guys have had the best success late in the evening or very early in the morning. However, the local government has decided to crack down on sexual activity in the dunes, claiming that it’s damaging to the wildlife. Patrols have been increased, and people caught can be fined. It’s your call if you still want to hunt for some action, you may be fine, if you’re worried, there are many dedicated cruise bars in the Yumbo Centre.

How to Get to Playa Maspalomas

To get to the gay area of Maspalomas Beach, you’ll need your walking shoes.  The easiest way is from del Faro Street, it’s just over a 10-minute walk to Kiosk # 7. You could also walk all the way around the point from English Beach. It’s about 3 km from there. Walking across the dunes is the most popular way, starting from the Riu Palace Hotel, it’s 2 km.

Where to Stay at Playa Maspalomas

Seaside Palm Beach A popular resort with a bright color theme, three pools, a gym, and a tennis court. Best of all, it’s only a 3-minute walk to the beach.

Lopesan Baobab Resort 5-star resort with an African theme, seven outdoor pools, and some rooms have ocean views. It’s a 10-minute walk to the beach.

Seaside Grand Hotel Residencia The only Leading Hotels of the World property in Gran Canaria, this luxury property has stunning 2-story villas with shady terraces. There’s a pool with a bar, a gym, and a state-of-the-art spa. It’s only a 5-minute walk to the beach.

Las Canteras Beach

If you’re heading up to the city of Las Palmas on the north of the island, be sure to visit Las Canteras Beach. Unlike the other two beaches, it’s partly protected by a coral reef, so there aren’t any waves at the northern end, which has a lagoon-like feel to it. For those into surfing, head to the southern end of the beach. It’s a touristy beach, so expect visitors from all walks of life here.

For gay visitors, Sauna Portugal, the only sauna on the island, is one block from the beach. Conveniently, it opens at 4 pm, so it’s a great excuse to head there after relaxing in the sun and doing some other form of relaxing. There’s a bar and snack food available, so why not turn up in just your speedos!

How to Get to Las Canteras Beach

Las Canteras Beach is at the north of the island and is easily accessible from the promenade that stretches the entire length of the beach, which has plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shops.

Where to Stay at Las Canteras Beach

Bull Reina Isabel & Spa This luxury 5-star property is only two blocks from the beach. It has a rooftop pool and spa, there’s a fitness center, and many rooms have sea views.

NH Imperial Plaza For direct beach access, this hotel is many travelers’ pick. It’s a 4-star property in a modern design, and the rooms face the sea. It’s at the north of the beach.

Lemon & Soul Las Palmas Budget gay travelers will love this property. It’s a little cozier than others in the area and provides really friendly service. This no-frills hotel is only a block away from the beach.

Exploring Ubud’s Nightlife: Best Bars for Gay Travelers https://thegaypassport.com/community/exploring-ubuds-best-bars-for-gay-travelers/ https://thegaypassport.com/community/exploring-ubuds-best-bars-for-gay-travelers/#respond Tue, 25 Mar 2025 17:01:10 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6064639 Your guide to the best gay bars in Bali — where to party, sip cocktails, and enjoy drag shows.

When hunting for the best gay bars in Bali, check out OnBali — they’ve already done the hard work of rounding up the island’s top clubs, hotels, and restaurants. Most gay-friendly spots in Bali are tucked away in Seminyak, the epicenter of LGBT culture and nightlife. Don’t be surprised if the addresses blur together, as many bars are just a few doors apart.

That said, while there aren’t tons of places dedicated solely to LGBT culture, Bali is incredibly gay-friendly. So don’t stick to just gay bars! The island’s clubbing scene is buzzing, and there are plenty of other great spots to check out. I’ll cover the best gay bars here and throw in a few regular bars I found in OnBali’s guide to the best bars Ubud.

1. Mixwell Bar

One of the most iconic gay bars in Bali sits on Jalan Camplung Tanduk — often dubbed Bali’s very own gay street. This is where you’ll find classic gay fun with drag shows, loud pop music, and go-go boys. Expect nightly drag performances with lip-sync battles, glitter, and a little skin. The party starts with drinks and dancing once the show wraps up.

The cocktails are surprisingly good — strong, affordable, and mostly classics like Piña Coladas and Mojitos. One thing to note: this place is super popular, so you’ll meet plenty of people outside the LGBT community, too. But the vibe is always friendly and fun — everyone’s here to have a good time. Just a heads-up, though: that cute guy dancing next to you might be straight.

2. Bali Joe Bar

Bali Joe Bar is right next door to Mixwell Bar, and many recommend trying a bit of bar hopping — a great idea since neither place charges an entry fee! Bali Joe is smaller than Mixwell, so be ready to squeeze through the crowd, especially later in the night when things get busier around 10 PM.

Like its neighbor, this gay bar is all about drag shows with lip-syncs to popular pop hits. Once the performances wrap, the DJs take over, dialing up the tempo with heavier beats than you’ll find next door. Definitely drop by to catch the shows, admire the stunning go-go boys, and enjoy some cocktails — the drink menu here is pretty extensive!

3. Bottoms Up Bar Bali

Right next to Mixwell and Bali Joe, you’ll find Bottoms Up Bar — because, yes, Seminyak is that gay. It’s a cozy little spot that delivers all the usual fun: bold drag shows, pop lip-syncs, and some seriously good-looking guys. But here’s the kicker — they’ve got shower shows, where ripped dancers move under flowing water. It’s as steamy as it sounds — though if you’re close to the stage, prepare to get a little splashy.

The bar opens at 7 PM and fills up around 10–11 PM. The food here is pretty good, so it’s worth coming early with friends for a solid dinner before diving into the night.

4. Stonewall Bali

Unlike many of the famous gay bars in Bali, Stonewall isn’t on Jalan Camplung Tanduk but on another Seminyak street — Jalan Raya Seminyak. It’s more laid-back, almost like a restaurant with a side of speakeasy charm. It’s quieter and classier but still knows how to bring the fun.

Their Drag Karaoke nights are a must — you can jump in, sing your heart out to iconic gay hits, and bask in the love from the crowd. The food here is solid, too. Burgers, fries, steaks — all the essentials to keep you fueled for a night of cocktails and dancing.

5. Aperitif Bar

Now, let’s talk about the best bars in Ubud. Say you’ve met someone at one of Bali’s gay-friendly bars or arrived with your partner in tow — where’s the perfect date spot? Mariia Ipatova from OnBali suggests heading to Aperitif Bar for an unforgettable night of great food and alcohol in Bali: “Go for the tasting menu and cocktails. It’s a bit of a splurge (IDR 1,900,000), but trust me, it’ll be one of the nights you’ll always remember.”

The cocktail program is inspired by the glamour of the 1930s. You won’t find basic mojitos here — expect creative mixes with house-made spirits infused with local spices and flavors, all served with a speakeasy twist.

6. No Más Bar

For a more fun and laid-back night, head to No Más Bar with your date — or solo, no big deal! Things kick off at 5 PM, starting as a chill spot for snacks, beers, and good chats. But as the night deepens, the vibe cranks up!

There’s live music, happy hours, theme parties, DJ sets, and dancing that’ll keep you moving all night. It’s the perfect place to get closer to someone, make new friends, or maybe even catch a little spark.

Conclusion

Sure, Bali’s gay bar scene isn’t huge, but what it lacks in numbers, it makes up for in unforgettable nights — the kind that’ll have you coming back again and again. It’s tough to pick favorites, so here are two more spots for some of the best gay-friendly fun in Bali:

  • Six Bar Bali. Also located on Jalan Camplung Tanduk, this place is more of a lounge than a club. Perfect for a relaxed vibe, good music, and strong cocktails.
  • G Club Bali. A relatively new spot opened in 2023. It’s popular with the younger crowd, especially during drag performances.

However, no matter where you end up, Bali’s gay-friendly bars promise nights full of fun, energy, and unforgettable memories. So, get out there, soak it all in, and let the island’s magic do the rest.

Top 10 Gift Ideas for Your Male Partner https://thegaypassport.com/community/top-10-gift-ideas-for-your-male-partner/ https://thegaypassport.com/community/top-10-gift-ideas-for-your-male-partner/#respond Tue, 25 Mar 2025 16:06:16 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6064635 Finding the right gift for your male partner can feel like a guessing game. You want something meaningful, useful, and maybe even a little unexpected. The trick is to think about what he enjoys daily and find ways to make those moments even better. Whether he’s into coffee, grooming, or art, there’s something that fits his personality perfectly. Here are some standout gift ideas that will show your appreciation in a way he’ll actually love.

1. Something Fun and Adventurous

If your partner is open to new experiences, consider something that adds a little excitement to his routine. A thoughtful and unexpected choice could be sex toys for your male partner—a way to introduce something fun while strengthening intimacy. From high-end massagers to discreet accessories, these gifts can be a great way to explore new levels of connection and enjoyment together.

2. A High-Quality Coffee Grinder

For the guy who takes his morning coffee seriously, a well-built coffee grinder can make all the difference. Pre-ground coffee loses its freshness quickly, while grinding beans right before brewing preserves the full flavor. Look for a burr grinder with adjustable settings so he can control the coarseness based on his drink of choice. Pair it with a bag of premium beans, and you’ve got a gift that he’ll appreciate every morning.

3. A Custom Illustration of a Meaningful Moment

Photos are great, but a custom illustration adds a level of personalization that a simple snapshot can’t match. Whether it’s a drawing of his favorite place, a pet portrait, or a stylized version of a couple’s photo, this kind of artwork makes for a unique and sentimental gift. Many artists offer a range of styles, allowing you to find something that perfectly fits his taste.

4. Premium Grooming Kits

A solid grooming kit isn’t just practical—it’s a way to elevate his daily routine. A well-assembled set can include essentials like a safety razor, beard oil, moisturizer, and a high-quality comb. Opt for a kit with natural ingredients that cater to his skin type. If he enjoys a clean shave, a traditional straight razor or a high-end electric shaver can be a game-changer in his grooming routine.

5. A Stylish Accessory in His Favorite Range of Colors

Men may not always admit it, but the right accessory can add a polished touch to any outfit. Consider a sleek watch, a leather belt, or even a high-end tie in a range of colors that suit his personal style. If he’s into something more casual, a quality pair of sneakers or a well-crafted wallet could be just as meaningful.

6. An Experience-Based Gift

If he values memories over material things, an experience-based gift could be the perfect option. Think about his interests—maybe he’d enjoy a whiskey-tasting session, a weekend getaway in Las Vegas, or tickets to see his favorite band. These gifts not only give him something to look forward to but also create lasting memories you can share together.

7. A Custom Drinkware Set with a Personal Message

Does he have a favorite drink of choice? Whether he enjoys whiskey, craft beer, or wine, a custom glass set makes a thoughtful and practical gift. Engraving his initials or a personal message on a tumbler or beer mug adds a meaningful touch. Pair it with a bottle of his preferred drink, and you’ve got a complete and well-thought-out gift.

8. A Smart Tech Upgrade

If he loves gadgets, upgrading his everyday tech can be a great way to show appreciation. Noise-canceling headphones, a smartwatch, or a high-quality Bluetooth speaker can enhance his daily life, whether he’s at work, commuting, or relaxing at home. Look for something that aligns with his needs—does he need something for productivity or just pure entertainment?

9. A Subscription Service That Matches His Interests

Subscriptions can be a gift that keeps on giving. Whether it’s a coffee subscription, a streaming service, or a monthly box of gourmet snacks, this kind of present extends the excitement beyond a single day. Choose something tailored to his hobbies or interests to make it feel even more special.

10. A Timeless Leather Journal

For the man who enjoys jotting down thoughts, sketching, or planning his next big idea, a leather journal is both stylish and functional. Opt for one with high-quality paper and a sleek cover, making it something he’ll want to use daily. If you want to take it a step further, you can personalize the cover with his initials or a small engraving.

Wrapping It Up

The best gifts show that you’ve paid attention to what he enjoys. Whether it’s a high-tech gadget, a sentimental keepsake, or something to elevate his daily routine, the right choice will make him feel appreciated. Consider his habits, interests, and personality when picking out the perfect present, and you’ll have a winner every time.

Cultural Immersion: Engaging with Europe’s Local LGBTQ+ Communities https://thegaypassport.com/community/engaging-with-europes-lgbtq-communities/ https://thegaypassport.com/community/engaging-with-europes-lgbtq-communities/#respond Sat, 11 Jan 2025 16:17:10 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6060747 Exploring Europe’s LGBTQ+ communities presents a unique opportunity to connect with diverse cultures while traveling. Engaging with these communities enriches your travel experience by fostering deeper connections and understanding of local traditions and lifestyles. Whether you’re attending vibrant pride events or visiting LGBTQ+-friendly venues, these interactions provide unforgettable insights.

Europe offers a range of welcoming destinations for LGBTQ+ travelers, each with its own cultural nuances. From Amsterdam’s inclusive atmosphere to Barcelona’s lively LGBTQ+ scene, each city provides unique opportunities for cultural interaction. By respecting local customs and laws, you can ensure a safe and rewarding experience, allowing for an authentic connection with the area’s residents.

Participating actively in local LGBTQ+ activities not only supports these communities but also enhances your journey. Many cities host year-round events catering to LGBTQ+ individuals, providing spaces to celebrate identity and culture. Making an effort to connect can lead to memorable experiences, leaving you with a broader perspective and a richer travel narrative.

Understanding LGBTQ+ Cultural Context in Europe

Exploring Europe’s LGBTQ+ cultural context involves looking at its historical roots, the present-day social and legal frameworks, and the varied experiences across different regions. Each of these elements helps you appreciate the diverse LGBTQ+ communities throughout the continent.

Historical Overview of LGBTQ+ Rights

The historical context of LGBTQ+ rights in Europe reflects both progress and setbacks. Throughout the 20th century, many countries decriminalized homosexuality, setting the stage for broader rights. The late 20th and early 21st centuries saw significant milestones, like the World Health Organization declassifying homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1990.

Many nations, such as the Netherlands, pioneered marriage equality, leading the way for others. Activism across the continent has driven significant change, though some regions still grapple with past discriminations and amending societal attitudes. Understanding these historical struggles is key to appreciating the progress and remaining challenges in Europe today.

Current Legal and Social Landscape

Today, Europe showcases a mix of legal frameworks for LGBTQ+ rights. Many countries, including Estonia and Greece, have passed laws supporting marriage equality and anti-discrimination. Yet, some regions, like Bulgaria and Georgia, have seen anti-LGBTQ+ policies introduced recently.

The social acceptance of LGBTQ+ individuals varies but is generally higher in Western European countries, where community spaces and pride events are commonplace. The evolving legal and social landscapes highlight ongoing efforts to balance civil liberties with societal norms.

Regional Variances within Europe

Europe’s LGBTQ+ experience is not uniform. Western and Northern European nations often offer more inclusive environments, featuring active LGBTQ+ cultures in cities like Dublin and Brussels, where vibrant communities flourish. These regions tend to have more comprehensive legal protections and societal acceptance.

In contrast, some Eastern European countries face challenges with conservative views, affecting LGBTQ+ rights and visibility. The EU has intervened to address right backsliding in places like Poland. Understanding these regional differences is crucial for travelers seeking to connect with local communities across the continent.

Engaging with Local LGBTQ+ Communities

Traveling through Europe offers a unique opportunity to connect with local LGBTQ+ communities. It’s important to know where to find safe spaces and events, how supporting LGBTQ+ owned businesses can enrich your experience, and the etiquette that ensures respectful interactions. For a diverse and enriching experience, consider boarding a cruise that stops at multiple European cities, giving you the chance to explore various LGBTQ+ communities in one trip.

Finding Safe Spaces and Events

Finding safe spaces and events is crucial when connecting with local LGBTQ+ communities. Look for venues known for their inclusivity, such as queer-friendly bars and cafes. Many European cities have community centers or LGBTQ+ organizations that host regular events, from social meetups to cultural workshops.

Apps and online platforms can help locate these spots, enhancing your travel itinerary. For example, Paris and Berlin are known for vibrant events celebrating diversity, including Pride parades and LGBTQ+ film festivals. Cruises can make it easier to attend multiple events across different cities in one journey. Always check event reviews and community forums to ensure your safety and enjoyment.

Supporting LGBTQ+ Owned Businesses

Supporting LGBTQ+ owned businesses is a meaningful way to engage with local communities. These businesses often create welcoming and supportive environments for travelers and locals alike. From hotels and restaurants to boutiques and art galleries, there’s a diverse range of businesses in Europe catering to the LGBTQ+ crowd.

For instance, purchasing products from queer artists or dining at LGBTQ+ owned eateries not only boosts the local economy but also strengthens community ties. Websites and directories provide lists of LGBTQ+ friendly businesses in cities like Amsterdam and Madrid, making it easy to incorporate these stops into your travel plans.

Etiquette and Sensitivity When Interacting

When engaging with local LGBTQ+ community members, displaying etiquette and sensitivity ensures meaningful and respectful interactions. Educate yourself about the cultural contexts and challenges the community may face in different countries. Mykonos Gay Beaches Guide https://thegaypassport.com/mykonos/mykonos-gay-beaches-guide/ https://thegaypassport.com/mykonos/mykonos-gay-beaches-guide/#respond Thu, 02 Jan 2025 18:53:47 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6060503

For years, gays have been flocking to Mykonos in the Greek Islands as IT has some of the best gay beaches and accompanying parties in the region.

For many years, Paradise and Super Paradise were the ‘go-to’ gay beaches in Mykonos. While they’re hugely popular and worth a visit, Paradise has a straighter crowd, and Super Paradise still has epic parties.

So, what’s the best gay beach in Mykonos? Elia has stolen the crown from Super-Paradise, so it’s a must-visit. There are 4 more to consider, though.

Mykonos Beaches have everything a gay traveler could ask for. Wall-to-wall eye candy with handsome guys in tight speedos as far as the eye can see. Each of the gay-friendly beaches allows nude sunbathing, and one of the beaches is well-known as a cruise area.

Here’s our guide to the 5 best gay beaches in Mykonos and how to get to them.

1. Elia Beach

Elia is now considered by many Mykonos’s best gay beach. As such, it gets super-crowded, especially in July and August. It’s located on the south of the island and is a little further — around 6km — from Mykonos Town than Paradise and Super Paradise.

As you arrive at the beach, don’t be put off by the seemingly straight crowd; walk a little further to the right, and you’ll see the rainbow flags. Keep walking to get to the nude section. If the beach is full and there’s nowhere to place your towel, head left onto the rocks.

How to Get to Elia

Elia is most easily accessed by car; it’s around a 25-minute drive from Mykonos Town and has a small car park. During busier seasons, a shuttle bus operates relatively infrequently from the Old Port terminal.

Where to Stay at Elia Beach

There’s quite a selection of hotels at Elia Beach; here are six we’d stay at:

Elia Mykonos Resort – its address is simply Elia Beach, telling the world it’s luxury beachfront. It’s a boutique resort with only 35 rooms and suites.

Arte & Mare Luxury Suites – is designed in the traditional Cycladic style, as you’d expect in the Greek Islands. This resort is 5 meters from the beach; some rooms are pool villas.

Royal Myconian – is part of the Leading Hotels of the World group. It’s located on the hill, looking over all of Elia. There are 153 rooms including pool villa suites.

Myconian Avaton – is a luxury property built into the rock high above Elia Beach. The infinity pool makes guests feel like they’re suspended in thin air.

Myconian Utopia—like its sister hotel, the Myconian Avaton, it’s built into the rock above the beach. This property is popular with couples, especially honeymooners. Why not have your beach wedding and then the reception right here?

Greco Philia Boutique Hotel – also located on the cliff, this time to the east of the beach. There are only 27 suites; our favorite is the junior suite, with the balcony spa overlooking the sea.

2. Super Paradise

Any first-time visitor needs to visit this gay Mykonos beach. Super Paradise is your gay party beach on Mykonos. The legendary Jackie O Beach Club hosts some of the hottest nightclub action on the island.

The Super Paradise Beach Club is the other venue; the beach gets more fun in the afternoon as the boys gather in preparation for the party.

How to Get to Super Paradise

Super Paradise is one of the most convenient beaches to get to from Mykonos town. It’s a 15-minute drive, and there’s a small parking area — so get there early.

While there’s no public transport to the beach, the Jackie O Beach Club has a shuttle from the Fabrika bus terminal every two hours. If you’re going with a group of friends, an alternative is to book a private car transfer from your hotel to the beach — it’s around 70 euros.

Where to Stay at Super Paradise

Super Paradise has three luxury properties that we’d choose for our next stay:

Super Paradise Suites —This resort, which sits atop a cliff to the east, has a trendy beach bar right on the beach. The property has four rooms, almost all of them overlooking the sea.

Lyo Boutique Hotel — on the cliff to the west of the beach, this boutique property has only 27 rooms; our favorite is the jacuzzi seaview suite.

My Aktis Hotel — Perfect for groups, this property on the cliff to the south of the beach has 5 and 6-bedroom villas. BYO party!

3. Panormos

What was once a well-kept secret, with the opening of the beach club, Panormos is gaining popularity as a gay beach; it’s tucked away at the north of the island, and once again, head right past the straight couples to find the gay end of the beach.

How to Get to Panormos

It’s only a 15-minute drive from Mykonos Town to Panormos and has a large car park. The shuttle service from the town is really infrequent, but with the beach gaining popularity, we hope it’ll improve.

Where to Stay at Panormos

There are three properties to consider at Panormos, one for budget-conscious travelers:

Panormos Village – located just to the north of the beach, this family-run property wants every guest to feel as if this is their home away from home. The hotel is built from traditional Mykonian stone architecture.

The Etesian Hotel – this boutique resort has only seven rooms and is located slightly west of Panormos Beach. It’s perfect for a romantic getaway.

Albatros Club Mykonos – is a 3-star property just north of the beach. It’s for gay travelers who prefer to spend their money on eating and partying rather than on accommodation. Choose from double or twin rooms.

4. Agrari

During the peak season, when Elia is jam-packed, Agrari is a convenient option. It’s a brief walk across the rocks from the left end of Elia. Of all the gay beaches on Mykonos, Agrari is perfect for cruising. The activity on the rocks isn’t discreet at all.

Agrari isn’t as crowded as Elia; it’s smaller but equally as beautiful and an excellent option, especially during high season.

How to Get to Agrari

Agrari is a little tricky to get to. You can drive — it takes around 25 minutes — but part of the road is unpaved and not very rental-car friendly. The best option is to drive or catch the shuttle to Elia and walk across the rocks.

Where to Stay at Agrari

When Elia hotels book out, duck around the corner to Agrari; here are two excellent options :

Sunrise Hotel and Suites – is a beachfront 4-star property. Every room and suite except the lead-in category has sea views.

Ethereal Apartments — this 3-star hotel is ideally situated only 200 meters from the beach. Rooms accommodate 2, 3, or 4 guests.

5. Paraga

One of the closest gay-friendly beaches to Mykonos Town is Paraga. It’s on the south of the island, around the corner from Paradise Beach, and tends to get a younger crowd. Since the opening of the beach club, the nude area has moved to the far right of the beach.

Paraga is home to Scorpio’s Beach Club, a hip venue that attracts a gay crowd.

How to Get to Paraga

Paraga, due to its proximity to Paradise Beach, is one of the most accessible beaches on Mykonos. There are frequent shuttle services from Mykonos Town, and it’s only a 15-minute drive; if the small car park is full, park over at Paradise Beach and walk up the hill.

Where to Stay at Paraga

Soho Roc House Mykonos – is a 4-star hotel just west of the beach. It has a path to the shoreline. The 44-room hotel is seasonal and only opens in summer.

Zephyros Hotel Paraga – is located on the cliff overlooking the beach, and being a 3-star property is more economical than many other beach hotels on the island.

What About All the Other Mykonos Beaches?

There are 23 beaches on Mykonos. Why do we only mention 5? That’s easy; these 5 are the most frequented by gay travelers.

There are 6 beaches that families mostly visit, and if you prefer to get your kit out, these beaches wouldn’t be appropriate. So you don’t get caught out, you probably want to skip Agios Ioannis, Agios Stefanos, Kalafatis, Kalo Livadi, Ornos, and Platys Gialos.

You’re there to hang out and party with other gay travelers, so Elia, Super Paradise, Panormos, Agrari, and Paraga have you covered.

XLSIOR Party

XLSIOR is a giant week-long party held in Mykonos every year towards the end of August. Think of it as a circuit party with different nights in alternate venues, including hotels, bars, beach clubs, and beaches.

The venue list changes every year and is released closer to the dates. However, with beach clubs at Paradise and Super Paradise, at least one party is bound to be at each destination.

Gay Hotels in Mykonos

We’ve listed our favorite hotels at each of the beaches above. While they welcome every form of guests, for gay travelers, nothing beats staying in Mykonos Town, where everything is at your doorstep.

Axel Beach Mykonos – Adults Only (previously was Akkadian Gay Only Hotel Mykonos), a 5-star retreat that’s a 20-minute walk from the beach. It features a chic restaurant, lounge by the pool, and live DJ because every night’s a party. It’s one of the most booked gay hotels in Mykonos.

Elysium Hotel is the official gay hotel in town, yet all of the others are incredibly gay-friendly,

Thirty hotels in Mykonos Town are ready to accept your pink dollar. There’s something for every gay traveler, from budget hotels to luxury beachfront properties and some with pool villas.

Flower Delivery For LGBT Couples: The Best Blooms & Their Meanings https://thegaypassport.com/community/flower-delivery-for-lgbt-couples-the-best-blooms-their-meanings/ https://thegaypassport.com/community/flower-delivery-for-lgbt-couples-the-best-blooms-their-meanings/#respond Sat, 07 Dec 2024 12:58:16 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6058548 A Fresh Twist on Sending Flowers

Flowers have always been like a secret code for love, tenderness, and respect. For LGBT couples, the right bouquet can say more than a thousand words—whether it’s Valentine’s Day, Pride Month, or just Tuesday with your boo. These days, online flower delivery makes it a breeze to send fresh blooms and heartfelt vibes, no matter where you’re chillin’.

Symbolic Blooms That Speak to Your Story

Ready to jazz up your love life with some seriously meaningful blooms? Flowers aren’t just pretty faces—they’re secret storytellers. For LGBT couples, certain petals pack a punch, speaking your truth and shouting out your shared journey.

  • Red Roses: The Timeless Classic
Red roses basically scream, “I love you, no matter what.” They’re the OG of romance—steady, loyal, and known worldwide. For LGBT couples, sending red roses is like signing your name under “We’ve got each other’s backs forever.”
  • Rainbow Tulips: Bold & Bright
Tulips mean perfect, unconditional love. Chuck in some rainbow colors, and bam, you’ve got a loud ‘n’ proud symbol of diversity. A bright mix of tulips can celebrate your journey together, showing off your true shades and fearless unity.
  • White Lilies: Pure & Honest
White lilies stand for honesty, a clean slate, and fresh starts. For many in the LGBT community, they can represent that moment of coming out or stepping into the open with confidence. These blooms say, “No hiding—just pure, open-hearted love.”

Whether it’s red roses speaking volumes, rainbow tulips celebrating pride, or white lilies symbolizing honest new beginnings, each blossom can carry your message straight to the heart. Let these flowers tell your story—bold, bright, and proudly yours.

Celebrating Special Moments With Flowers

Valentine’s Day Romance

Feb 14th is the big show. Sure, it’s cheesy, but who doesn’t like a bit of cheese now and then? Rockin’ some red and pink flowers can crank up the lovey-dovey vibes big time. It’s not about gender—it’s about real affection, loud and clear. Add a heartfelt note, maybe even a goofy inside joke, to seal the deal. These blooms aren’t just pretty—they’re saying, “Hey, I’m totally into you.”

Pride Month Celebrations

June’s Pride Month is all about love in every color of the freakin’ rainbow. A multicolored bouquet on your table sets a mood that’s inclusive, fun, and totally you. Take ’em to a parade, spruce up your apartment—whatever suits your jam. Each vivid flower can stand for a piece of your story, coming together to form a unique, unified patchwork of love. Let those petals scream: “We’re here, we’re us, and we’re proud as heck!”

Wedding Anniversaries

Another year, another reason to party. A custom bouquet—think calla lilies for fairness and orchids for strength—highlights the bond you’ve built. It’s like a yearly reminder that your love story keeps rolling and keeps getting better, eh? Mix it up each year to reflect the new chapters you’ve both lived through—try different blooms that capture how much stronger, kinder, and more adventurous your love has grown. These flowers don’t just decorate your home; they celebrate how far you’ve come together.

The Most Important Features When Choosing an E-Bike https://thegaypassport.com/community/the-most-important-features-when-choosing-an-e-bike/ https://thegaypassport.com/community/the-most-important-features-when-choosing-an-e-bike/#respond Sat, 07 Dec 2024 12:47:53 +0000 https://thegaypassport.com/?p=6058543 Having an electric bike (e-bike) at your disposal can be the perfect commuter option depending on where you live. More efficient than your average vehicle, e-bikes are capable of speeds greater than 30mph, making it easier and more efficient to get where you need to be.

That said, it is imperative to pick the right e-bike. But how do you make that decision? With a few helpful tips, you can find the features that will make the biggest impact and provide you with an e-bike that meets all of your needs.

Motor
Though it may go without saying, the motor is one of the most important features on any e-bike you choose. If it is your primary method of travel, it has to be strong enough to get you there quickly and reliably. Choose a motor that isn’t up to the task, and you could be stuck using your bike without the “e” involved.

Each e-bike comes with different mounting locations and features. Mid-drive mounted motors typically tend to be a bit more powerful offering more torque, but they are also more expensive. If push comes to shove, mid-drive mounted should be the choice because it is the fastest and most reliable motor you are going to find.

Battery Range and Charging
The power of the motor on your e-bike is only as good as its battery. On the typical e-bike, the battery will last somewhere in the 25-50 mile range. For the most part, that is enough to cover the commute of many riders. The good news is that you can use the bike even after the battery runs out, it’s just a bit heavier and harder to propel.

Know how far you intend to ride your e-bike each day. Find a battery that will hold a longer charge and meet your distance. Charging is important as well. Depending on the battery type, it should take between three and six hours to reach a full charge, though you can get away with around 90% charge for most journeys.

Pedal Assistance
The entire point of buying an e-bike is to move at a faster rate of speed without having to compensate through your own pedaling. For that reason, pedal assistance is up there in terms of important features. You need to find one that will help keep you going for longer.

For the most part, you are going to find a motor that is around 250 watts or so. These pedal assist motors generally have a cutoff of around 20-25 mph, though it varies depending on the bike. Depending on your preference, there is torque sensor and cadence sensor pedal assist, each offering their own perks and downsides accordingly.

What Kind of Power?
Finally, you need to know how fast you want to go on a regular basis. This goes back to the motor but knowing how fast you want or need to travel regularly will be a very strong determining factor when it comes to making a choice. While “faster” might feel like an obvious choice, it isn’t necessarily.

For the most part, standard e-bikes are going to be in the 250-350W range. This will see a top engine speed of 20mph, usually with pedal assist limits. Next is the 500-1000W engine, considered to be “extra” power. Top speeds are generally around 35mph but can vary. The most powerful are in the 2000-14000W range. These bikes are akin to mopeds or even motorcycles, capable of going anywhere from 45-90 mph depending on the controller, voltage, and a number of other factors.

Le Marais is perfect for LGBTQ+ travelers who want to immerse themselves in Paris’ longstanding LGBTQ+ culture and enjoy a more refined experience.

Gare Du Nord: An Emerging, Edgy LGBTQ+ Scene
In contrast, Gare Du Nord offers a raw, authentic look at Parisian life through a multicultural lens. The neighborhood’s alternative LGBTQ+ scene is ideal for travelers who appreciate art, food diversity, and an emerging cultural landscape. Gare Du Nord is a great option for those who want a more affordable experience while enjoying a lively, artistic atmosphere. It’s less polished than Le Marais but equally as compelling, especially for LGBTQ+ travelers seeking something off the beaten path.

Conclusion

Hotel Jules & Jim and 25hours Hotel Paris Terminus Nord serve as ideal bases, each providing an inclusive, welcoming atmosphere that caters to different tastes and preferences.
